As part of our long-standing anti-racism campaign, UNISON Greater London region is proud to present ‘Lets talk about race’ a webinar which is open for all UNISON members.

We’re excited to announce that we will have John Barnes MBE (former professional footballer at Liverpool, Watford and Newcastle), Shaka Hislop (honorary president and former professional goalkeeper at Newcastle & West Ham) and Maria Petnga Wallace, from Show Racism the Red Card joining us.  Other speakers will include Lavinya Stennett, Founder and CEO from the Black Curriculum and Maggi Ferncombe, UNISON Regional Secretary.

The event taking place on Thursday 20 May 4-6pm, will be chaired by David Lammy MP and Adejare Oyewole, Chair of London’s regional Black members committee.

Topics will include:
Online racism and micro-aggressions, the work of Show Racism the Red Card
– Work of the Black Curriculum and how we can shape / influence future generations
– Racism, a Trade Union issue; allyship

As trade unionists, regardless of our race, we have always had a responsibility to challenge racism in all forms.
To make real change now and in the future across London public services, we must work collectively to do so. We all have a role to play in the fight for equality and tackling racism and we need to talk about race.  We encourage all members to register for what will be an unmissable event.
