LGBT+ members

UNISON Greater London LGBT+ group fights discrimination and prejudice in the workplace on behalf of its lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender members.

We organise through an elected regional committee who meet four times a year, with an additional AGM and separate Policy Days and Training & Organising Days, to plan our campaigns.

Our regional co-chairs are Anu Prashar and Terry Eastham.

We are very high profile at many Pride events in London, taking our messages of equality and standing up for public services to the wider LGBT+ community. We will be attending the following Pride events, and encourage all members/ activists / branches to help out and take part.

Croydon Pride – Saturday 20 July 2024
Croydon Pride has been rescheduled and will be held on 20 July, where the region is hoping to have a stall. We are looking for volunteers to help run the stall, and increase UNISON’s visibility in the local area, and promote the work we are doing around Year of LGBT+ Workers. We are currently awaiting confirmation of our stall, and we will update all volunteers in due course.

Trans Pride – Saturday 27 July 2024
As you’ll be aware, the Trans Equality campaign is a regional priority for Year of LGBT+ Workers and UNISON’s presence at this pride is vital to send a clear message of solidarity to the trans community, and show that UNISON stands against transphobia and related discrimination in all forms. There will be a parade from 1pm at Trafalgar Square. Information about the regional meeting point will be shared to those who volunteer below. The more members/activists/branches in attendance, the louder the message we send to support the Trans community.

Black Pride – Sunday 11 August 2024
UK Black Pride brings the community together for a party and protest at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, in Stratford. It is now officially the world’s largest celeration for LGBT+ people of African, Caribbean, Latin American and Middle Eastern heritage. UNISON will be holding a stall at this event, and we are looking for volunteers to help run the stall and increase UNISON’s visibility in the Black LGBT+ community.

Merton Pride – TBC
Merton are hoping to hold their first ever Pride event, which the Committee are hoping to sponsor should it go ahead. We are still awaiting details, but if you would be interested in supporting this event, please indicate on the form below.
