OCS staff at Great Ormond street hospital celebrate after trust announces its bringing contract back in house

Domestic, helpdesk and waste services staff, working for OCS in Great Ormond Street hospital will be brought back in house from 1st August 2021.

After ongoing talks at staff partnership meetings the Trust have agreed to bring the domestic services contract back in house.  The contract currently run by OCS has been held by a number of service providers in the past such as Mitie and ISS. As a result those directly employed don’t receive any of the Agenda for Change terms and conditions that other NHS staff do. Meaning they lose out on things like sick pay, NHS pension scheme and additional annual leave.

UNISON Great Ormond Street branch secretary John Bennett said: “This is huge step in the right direction for Great Ormond Street hospital, this contract has been outsourced for over 20 years, so it’s a huge victory for staff employed by OCS.

“We’ve been holding talks with employer regarding this for the last 18 months as we were aware the contract was coming up for renewal, we are over the moon with the Trusts decision and will continue to work in partnership to ensure no staff member is at a financial detriment”

The Trust plans to hold meetings with OCS staff next year and the recognised Trade Unions to discuss further details about the transition. If you are a UNISON member affected by this please contact the branch at unison@gosh.nhs.uk Alternatively if you wish to join you can by clicking here.
