Healthcare support workers across London come together in fight for fair pay

UNISON’s Pay Fair for Patient Care Campaign

Healthcare support workers working in Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and Imperial College NHS Trust, came together to attend several UNISON mass meetings to discuss UNISON’s Pay Fair for Patient Campaign.

The campaign, is fighting for the re-banding of band 2 healthcare assistants to band 3, so they are graded fairly for the job they are actually doing day to day. Many healthcare support workers regularly work above their pay grade, so UNISON, with the support of our active HCA (healthcare assistant) leads, will also be making a claim for up to 5 years’ worth of back pay.

The meetings agreed unanimously to organise and start the signing of the collective grievance. It is now vital for all HCA’s who want to be re-banded, and represented by UNISON to sign the collective grievance. UNISON organisers and active HCA ward leads will now be working forward together on the next stages of the campaign, getting as many signatures on the collective grievance.

The meetings were joined by other key branch officers and activists from other UNISON Greater London branches who had successfully won this campaign locally, a true reflection of our membership and what can be achieved when members come together and show strength in numbers.
