On 22nd November Havering UNISON visited the Houses of Commons to celebrate #StarsInOurSchools, and lobby MPs regarding over lack of school funding.

In preparation for the visit, the branch met with UNISON members and surveyed all Havering school staff to ask what their main concerns were – so that these could be highlighted directly to MPs.

The main words that came out of the survey, shown above, highlighted lack of resources, pay and children as the main sources of concern.

Three representatives from Havering branch attended the event, which was well attended by MP’s, who were keen to hear the views of the branch and the impact of lack of funding on frontline staff. MPs were pleased to support UNISON in the #StarsInOurSchools campaign and to help highlight the increasing work of support staff across the UK.

The picture above shows the branch meeting Nadia Whittome (Nottingham East MP) who discussed how she saw first-hand the impacts of poor funding when working as a carer.
